Ms. Susan Ferkin
Welcome to the Richland Library! I started working with Memphis City Schools in 2000 and have been the Librarian at Richland since 2005. I am origianlly from Buffalo, NY and have lived in several places from coast to coast. I earned my Masters in Library and Information Studies from Simmons College in Boston, MA. During my career I have been a librarian for a private consulting firm, a large corporate law firm (both in Boston) and the University of San Francisco. I have three sons and two of them are also librarians. My third son is studying to be a clinical psychologist at the University of Buffalo. I am an avid reader and I also love art. Outside of school I'm a mosaic artist and a member of the Memphis Arts Collective.
I'm so excited to check out books once again to our Richland students. We have quite a few new books in the Library, including many new series. We use the Accelerated Reader program at Richland, and students in 1st-5th grade will take the STAR test for their reading level three times throughout the school year. I will post the AR bulletin board outside of the Library. The Scholastic Book Fair is scheduled for the fall and spring. Information and dates will be posted, stay tuned!
Grades K-1 have Library once a week and Grades 2-5 have Library every two weeks, rotating with Computer Lab every other week. I'm looking forward to seeing you in the Library!
