Math Info

    • Dear Parents,
Welcome to 4th grade!  My name is Madison Hertzka, and I will be your child’s math teacher this year.  I wanted to give you some basic information that will make the school year go by smoothly.

      • My email address: hertzkam@scsk12.org.This is the easiest way to communicate with me.  Feel free to email anytime.  I will respond within 48 hours, but usually sooner.
      • I update my webpage weekly.
      • Please check Remind and my teacher page often. I provide study guides and answer keys to the study guides on these platforms. I also provide blank copies of homework and classwork in case they get misplaced.
      • I assign math homework every Monday, and it is due on Friday. Please work with your child if possible. After Friday, I deduct 5 points for everyday it is late.
      • STUDY GUIDES: I ALWAYS send home a study guide one week before an assessment. Studying is a relatively new habit for 4th graders.  Please make sure you work together at home to build good studying habits. The study guides are very similar to the actual test, and we review the answers in class. Study guides can be used on tests for the first semester, but not during the second. Again, it is important to form good study habits, so that the transition into the second semester is easier.
      • I cannot provide a new copy of all homework, classwork, and study guides that go missing. If your student needs a new copy, please access the blank copies from my webpage. If you do not have access to a printer, please reach out to me and we will work it out!
      • Math Facts: Timed multiplication quizzes are taken every Friday. Students have two minutes (unless extended time is indicated by an IEP) and I grade out of the total they complete.
      • Check PowerSchool often to check your child’s average.  I will send home graded papers via Wednesday work folders.   However, students can sometimes forget work folders at school or papers get misplaced in transit from school to home.  PowerSchool is a great backup! I update grades weekly, if not more frequently.
