Narrative writing tips
1: Organize your story
Use transition words such as first, next, then, and finally
2: Make your characters speak
Use dialogue by putting quotation marks around words that your characters say. For example:
"Nothing cool ever happens at Manchester Elementary," I said to my best friend Jade.
"I know. This school is so boring," Jade agreed.
3: Activate the senses
Describe how things look, taste, sound, smell, and feel.
4: Use your best vocabulary words
Use the best words you know. Don't say big when you can say enormous. Don't say cold when you can say people are shivering. You can even use science and history words in your narrative.
5: Check your conventions
Conventions are spelling, punctuation, and capitalization. Check each sentence you wrote and fix careless mistakes.
