Classroom Organization and Room Arrangement

  • In an effective Pre-K classroom, the physical classroom environment should serve as the third teacher.  This means that the room must be laid out, organized, and labeled in a manner that allows students to learn from the room itself.  Teachers must use ECERS-3 and Creative Curriculum as guides for setting up their learning environment.  The Pre-K classroom must be a developmentally appropriate, safe, clean, and positive environment for students.  The classroom must be well-defined, with all centers and other required areas easily identifiable.  Furniture and materials must be clean and well-kept.  Careful consideration must be given to accessibility, classroom traffic flow, and individual students' needs.  A high-quality Pre-K experience starts with a well-organized and equipped classroom.
