Preschoolers need support from adults to help develop their self-regulation skills. As students participate in group activities and follow classroom procedures and routines, they are discovering how to manage their emotions and behavior. To meet the social and emotional needs of students, teachers must create safe and nurturing environments and instruct them on how to cope with changes and emotions in a safe way. Some children may require a private area where they can escape from an overstimulating environment. The cozy area provides children with comfortable, calming furniture and materials that allow them to rest. The cozy area may be called many different things such as the calm-down corner, reset area, etc.. While not a traditional "area," the cozy area is an ECERS-3 and MSCS Pre-K required area.
