Greetings Lucy Elementary Eagle Family!

Welcome to the 2024-2025 school year. For the past two years, I enjoyed teaching 3rd grade ELA, Math, Social Studies and Science. I am even more excited about teaching our kindergartners. I am a proud alumnus of the graduating class of 2000 at Central High School. I began furthering my education by working towards completing my associates in education at Southwest Community College. I did not complete the program due to some challenges. Teaching is something I have always wanted to do professionally. I later enrolled at Belhaven University were I completed a Bachelors in Biblical Studies in 2013. When MSCS was looking to hire more men with at least a four year degree, I took this as my opportunity to finally get in the classroom.

I am a license and ordained minister. I have been serving as pastor of a local church in the heart of south Memphis for 5 years. I am married to my lovely wife for 10 years and we have 4 beautiful children (3 boys and 1 girl). The oldest two boys are in high school, our baby boy is started 2nd grade and one babygirl who has one more year of of prek. Something students of Lucy will tell you is that Mr. Mayes is a professional wrestler and have been apart of the industry for the past 25 years. I look forward to an exciting year.
