Tutoring: Monday 2:30-3:30
Grades:
School policy dictates that students should have at least two grades per week. There are five categories for grading. Each category has an individual weight, a percentage of the final cumulative grade. The weight for each category is listed below:- Assessment: 40%
- Classwork: 35%
- Homework: 10%
- Projects: 10%
- Participation: 5%

The textbook, resources, and additional materials can be accessed through the teacher website on the Overton High School website.
Classwork:
Assignments are created to meet the objectives of the Tennessee Academic Standards. Assignments should be completed in class. Assignments should be turned in when completed. Assignments submitted after Friday will be considered late.
Homework:

The instructor will use formative assessments (quizzes) and summative assessments (tests) to measure mastery of course concepts. Quizzes and tests can only be made up during tutoring hours (Monday 2:30).
Projects:
Students are assigned one project every quarter. Class time may be set aside for students to work on their project, but generally students are expected to complete their projects outside of class.Missing Assignments/Makeup Work:
All missing assignments and assessments will be recorded as a 0 (zero) in the gradebook until it is submitted or made-up. It is the student’s responsibility to make arrangements for missing assignments and assessments.
Academic Integrity:
It is essential that all students adhere to the highest standards of honesty and integrity in their academic work. Students are expected to complete all assignments, exams, and other academic activities in a manner that reflects their own understanding and effort. Cheating, plagiarism, and other forms of academic dishonesty are strictly prohibited.
Forms of Academic Dishonesty:
- Cheating: Using or attempting to use unauthorized materials, information, or study aids in any academic exercise.
- Plagiarism: Representing the words, ideas, or data of another person as your own without proper acknowledgment.
- Fabrication: Falsifying or inventing any information or citation in an academic exercise.
- Facilitation: Helping or attempting to help another student commit an act of academic dishonesty.
Tardies/Absences:
Student tardiness, absenteeism, and truancy are ongoing concerns across the district.
- The first school bell rings at 7:00 am. At 7:15 am the tardy bell rings.
- Any student arriving to class after 7:15 am will be marked tardy.
- Students who arrive after 7:30 am must obtain an admittance slip from the main office.
- Handwritten late notes will not be accepted. Teachers must use email to communicate with the instructor.
- Tardies and class skipping daily.
- Students found to be skipping classes will be reported to the main office and will not be allowed to make up missed work.
School Related Absences:
Students who will miss class for school related activities must have their instructor/sponsor send an email to the teacher AT LEAST one day in advance.
District Cell Phone/Personal Communication Devices Policy (#6024):
Memphis-Shelby County Schools Policy states that students should not be in possession of phones or personal communication devices at any time during the regular school day. Students who are in possession should have the device turned off and stored. Students may have their device taken from them and kept by the school, the principal, or the designee until a parent is notified. Repeated violations of the policy will result in additional consequences in accordance with the district-wide discipline policy.

Classroom Cell Phone Usage:
Students are not permitted to use cellphones in class. Students should place their phone in the phone pocket at the beginning of each class and leave it there until the end of class. Any departure from this procedure should be discussed with the teacher in advance.
Usage includes but is not limited to:
- Texting or messaging
- Social media browsing
- Music/Video streaming
- Photos/Video recording
- Phone calls
- Video Conferencing/Streaming
Bullying/Harassment:
Every student is entitled to an education free from harassment. Disrespect or bullying towards any student or teacher WILL NOT be tolerated for any reason.
This includes but is not limited to: any derogatory words, slurs, insults, or physical actions made based on someone’s race, gender, gender expression, sexual orientation, identity, religion, disability, socioeconomic status, familiar connections, or physical appearance.

Parent Involvement:
Parents are encouraged to be active participants in this classroom. Parents are welcome to email the teacher with any questions or concerns that they have. If there is a discrepancy in grades, please bring it to the teacher’s attention immediately.
Amendments:
Because teachers are unable to predict future circumstances, any changes or amendments in the syllabus will be made available in writing.
