Rachel Johnson is a Memphis native, music educator, musician, and the director of Orchestras at Overton High School for the Creative and Performing Arts and Willow Oaks Elementary School in Memphis TN. Ms. Johnson is dedicated to expanding string music to young people and minorities across the Mid-South through research and presentation of African American composers in public concerts, coordination of new programs, and advocacy for equitable opportunities in the arts. She is also well versed in nonprofit and business management. She is the founder of R.P. Johnson Consulting LLC which provides professional education consulting and program coordination for school districts and youth organizations across the country. Rachel is a graduate of the University of Tennessee at Knoxville with a BA in Music and Culture and a BA in Psychology. She is the Program Coordinator for the Memphis Jazz Workshop, a non-profit which provides music intensives and unparalleled guidance for middle and high school students. She has given given master classes at the University of Rejavik Iceland and presented research on Equity in Secondary Music Education for West Tennesssee String and Band Association All-West Clinic.
