Policy 6024 Personal Wireless Communication Devices
Please be advised that revisions to Policy 6024 Personal Wireless Communication Devices were adopted by the Board on July 29, 2025. In addition to the link provided below, the policies can be accessed online in BoardDocs here.
Adopted revisions (in part)
- Align with new state law prohibiting use of wireless communication devices during the instructional period unless exceptions apply
- Define school day as the full duration of school operation, including instructional time, passing periods, lunch breaks, recess, and school-sponsored activities that occur during the school day.
- Define wireless communication device as a portable wireless device that has the capability to provide voice, messaging, or other data communication between two (2) or more parties, including, but not limited to: (1) cellular telephones; (2) tablet computers; (3) laptop computers; and (4) gaming devices, and smartwatches.
- Outline requirements for the appropriate storage of personal wireless communication devices
- Align consequences for violation of policy with progressive disciplinary measures (per student code of conduct)
- Require the district to have a process in place to contact parents/guardians in the event of an emergency
- Clarify the students’ responsibility for safeguarding their personal wireless communication devices while on school campus
Administrative Rules and Regulations
- Provide general guidance to address infractions based on progressive discipline
- Clarify that subsequent infractions will result in the escalation to a higher progressive disciplinary measure
