Denisha "ShA" Locke

Not only am I a Fashion Design teacher at Overton High School, but a Fashion Designer by trade as well as a life-stylist and visionary, by design. I started a saturated career in the fashion industry in New York designing and working in technical design and product development for over 10 years with world-known companies like Polo Ralph Lauren, John Varvatos, O'Oscar De La Renta, Sears/Kmart and Walmart. Upon returning to Memphis, I discovered a love for teaching the arts of Fashion Design even while Designing. I successfully launched a non-profit, Sew D-Vine, which offers fashion design and sewing enriched camps, like SEWFAB, geared towards teaching to enhance the skillset of young creative minds. My SEWFAB camp alone has impacted the lives of over 200 youth since 2017 and inspired 4 students to obtain their degrees in Fashion Design at The University of Memphis, The University of Hawaii and The Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD).

Pouring myself and experiences into just about anyone who appreciates the art of design has led me to teach all around the city, including Memphis College of Arts (Pattern Techniques), Shelby County Schools (Fashion Design Sewing) and University of Memphis (Intro to the Fashion Industry). I have also worked diligently with costume/costume design with performers of Collage Dance Collectives, Ballet Memphis and The New Ballet Ensemble in addition to several stage performances here at Overton High School. I'm super excited about my 4th year at Overton to serve the community, nurture the creative and help our students acknowledge their full potenetial.
