Dear Parents, Students and Members of the M.S.S.A. Community:
Greetings, and welcome to the 2019-2020 school year at Maxine Smith STEAM Academy. I am privileged and thrilled to be the new Counselor at the most prestigious middle school in Shelby County. My concept of a Comprehensive School Counseling Program is simple and straightforward: to help all “Shining Knight” students maintain their A-B-Cs: achieving Academic success, meeting and exceeding Behavioral expectations (Social-Emotional Learning), and exploring College/Postsecondary and Career opportunities.
As an enthusiastic advocate for the highest quality holistic education for our stellar student population, I am available and willing to serve in my role to the best of my ability. From classroom guidance lessons to small group sessions and individual counseling, I design my curriculum and services to address a variety of student needs. I cooperate with our Administration, faculty and staff to promote the M.S.S.A. vision of “Knights CARE”, along with establishing and implementing an effective, engaging schoolwide character education program. Please feel free to contact me regarding any questions or concerns. I can be reached by phone at 901-416-9505 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org. I anticipate a spectacular year for the benefit of our students, and I appreciate your joint contribution in this endeavor.
6th Grade - Students entering sixth grade (Technicians) will receive an orientation to Maxine Smith STEAM Academy prior to the start of the school year. This orientation will consist of getting familiar with locker logistics, understanding class options and other success skills for middle school life.
7th Grade - Seventh-grade students will have opportunities as Engineers to continue learning and growing both individually and collectively. They will receive guidance and support services specific to their unique needs of being in the "middle of middle school"--looking back on what they learned as sixth-graders and anticipating what they will learn as eighth-graders.
8th Grade - Our Eighth-grade Inventors will concentrate on preparing for high school and delving more deeply into the College and Career Exploration process.
