Welcome Back Peabody Families:
Well, our summer time is winding down and we are so excited to see our students soon!!!
School starts on Monday, August 8th @ 8:00 A.M. and ends at 3:15 P.M. I hope your child has read their summer books and plan to return their Summer Reading Log for a Dress Down Pass. Students in grades 3rd-5th should have learned their multiplication facts 0-12.
Do not forget the Free School Supply Drive Saturday, August 6th from 9:00 A.M.-11:00 A.M. at Lindenwood Christian Church. Tickets must be presented to receive supplies. Tickets can be retrieved form Peabody between 9:00 A.M.-2:00 P.M. before Thursday, August 4th. Currently, we have very few tickets remaining.
Your child's teacher will call and introduce who they are by Saturday, August 6th. Kindergarten teachers will call and inform parents what day your child will come for testing the first week of school. Kindergarten students will only come for (1) day of testing the first week of school.
We will have "Meet the Teachers Night" on the playground during Registration Night on Tuesday, August 2nd from 5:30 P.M.-6:00 P.M. It will be very informal and popsicles will be served. Peabody will have a more formal Parent/Teacher Meeting the week of August 15th. More details will be provided later.
I would like to share some school Arrival/Dismissal procedures with parents that will help keep our students safe. Please make sure you complete the Dismissal form attached and return it to school Registration Day/Night or the first day of school.
Remember, students are marked late/tardy at 8:16 A.M. If your child arrives to school after 8:15 A.M., the parent MUST come into the office with the child to sign them into school. Please plan to have your child at school each day between 8:00 A.M.-8:15 A.M. Breakfast is served in the cafeteria from 7:45 A.M. -7:59 A.M. Students enter in the side cafeteria door on the East side of the school for breakfast. Only students are allowed in the cafeteria for breakfast; not parents. Please do not drop off students before 7:45 A.M., because we do not have staff at school to supervise students; unless your child is in Before School Care/Y-care. Information for Y-care registration can be found on Peabody's facebook page.
We will resume our old Arrival/Dismissal Procedures before Covid. Before Covid, parents dropped off students on Young on either side. The side adjacent to the school is where the cars drop-off and keep moving. Cars CANNOT park on this side of Young adjacent to the school. The opposite side of Young- across form the school is where cars may choose to park if parents decide to come into the building or park and sit. If you do not do not drop your child off on the Young side adjacent to the school, please make sure they cross at the Crosswalk with the Crossing Guard.
Again, parents CANNOT park on the side of Young that is adjacent to the school. This is a Car-rider Drop--off line where the cars drop off and keep moving. With this process, there will be limited staff and parent volunteers with WatchDogs who will assist students from their cars. If you would like to sign up to become a WatchDog, please email our school counselor, Tamara Turner at turnertl@scsk12.org. Volunteers usually work from 7:45-8:15 (1) week a month. We would love to have as many parents as possible and we are looking for a Lead parent to organize the WatchDogs!
Due to State-wide safety procedures, parents will not be allowed to enter the building to walk students to class; unless you sign-in the office. No one will be allowed inside the school building without signing-in the main office with their Driver's License first. Parents must wear a Visitors' Badge while in the building. However, during this time, teachers will not have time to talk with parents because they will be supervising students and preparing to start their day of instruction. If parents would like to meet with teachers, please schedule an appointment through the office or with the teacher via email.
For Dismissal, parents may park on both sides of Young. Car-rider students will stand outside with their teacher in designated areas and wait for their parents. Parents must exit the car and come to the designated area to pick up their child. Teachers will not send students to the car. An adult must meet the teacher in the designated area to pick up your child. Teachers will hold signs with their name and grade section the first week of school to help parents identify designated areas.
Parents are not allowed Park on Tanglewood between Young and Oliver, Faculty parking lot, or the parking drive by the cafeteria at any time during Arrival/Dismissal.
I have attached a Dismissal Form. Please complete the form and return the form on Registration Day August 2nd from 8:00 A.M.-2:00 P.M. and 4:00 P.M.-6:00 P.M. or the first day of school. Only the people who are18 years of age listed on your Dismissal Form will be allowed to pick-up your child.
Again, remember parents that all of these procedures are for the safety of our children.
Please read the attached School Procedure Forms and return the Dismissal Form.
I look forward to seeing everyone soon and, I am eager to meet all of our students and parents who are new to Peabody! We are going to have an AWESOME year!
