    *NEW Dismissal Procedures for 2025-2026*

    • Independent Walkers: Students who are walking home by themselves are dismissed to both Stratford and Perkins. These are students who are not boarding into cars on Perkins in the car line. All walkers should cross streets at crosswalks only.
    • Walking with Parent: Students will remain in their classroom until you arrive and show your walker tag number to staff for your child's number to be called on the radio.
    • Car Riders: The car rider line is along the curb on the Perkins side of the school. Parents will use car rider tags to hang from the rear view mirror.
      • We will not call names. Please have the car tag with your student(s) number(s) displayed.
      • Students will only exit the building when their car number is called.
      • We will not dismiss students to cars without a car rider tag.
      • Parents without a car tag must pull down to the end of the street, park, and come to the office to verify your identity with a driver's license in order to pick up students.

    Dismissal Locations

    • Kindergartners must be collected directly from teachers at the front porch on Perkins or from the Kindergarten building on Stratford.
    • 1st Graders will exit from their hallway door on Perkins and from the cafeteria doors on Stratford.
    • 2nd Grade Walkers will exit from their hallway door on Perkins and from the door at the fenced walkway on Stratford.
    • 3rd-5th Grade Walkers will exit from the causeway (black cage) towards Perkins and from the door at the fenced walkway on Stratford.

Quick facts about arrival and dismissal:

    1. Please make sure that your students know for sure if they are to be dismissed to Perkins or Stratford.
    2. Please make sure students in grades 2-5 understand if they are an independent walker, walking with parent, or a car rider on Perkins.
    3. Parents should not leave cars parked in the car lane along the Perkins curb next to the school. Leaving a car slows down the flow of the car line.
    4. Please do not cross your child in the middle of either street. Cross only at a crosswalk. This is a law and a major safety issue.
    5. After 3:30, students will need to be signed out at the main office by a parent.
    6. Picking up children extremely late is considered neglect and must be reported to DCS. We all understand extreme circumstances will happen. Patterns of late pick-up are neglectful behaviors.

As an effort to increase the safety and security of our students and staff, we are beginning a new dismissal plan. Your cooperation with dismissal procedures is absolutely necessary for dismissal to work well. Thank you for your commitment to making Berclair Elementary the great school that it is.

    Sincerely,

    Clinton Davis, Principal
