2022 GHS Volleyball Tryouts
-
In order to try out, you:
Must have a current sports physical date AFTER April 15th, 2022.
Must be able to do the mandatory practices starting July 11th for those who make a team.
Why are there player fees and how much are they?
The school district does not provide a budget for athletics. This means that everything we do for our athletes must be funded somehow. It costs about $40,000 annually to run this program. We do fundraisers throughout the year where players can earn money for their individual fees. Fees, also sometimes called dues, vary depending upon the team the player is on. For the 2022 season, the fees range from $1,000 to $1,800.
What if I didn’t know about tryouts and I missed them?
Email Coach Henry asap and ask about the make-up tryout dates. If you missed that as well, ask about a walk-on tryout.
How competitive is Germantown’s volleyball program?
GHS Volleyball has a proud and rich heritage, with 7 state titles, multiple more runner-up results, and many state appearances. We are a top volleyball program for SCS and compete well against the local private schools and municipality schools as well.
How many teams are there and is it possible for an incoming 9th grader to make the JV or Varsity squads?
There are three teams: Freshmen, JV, and Varsity. At tryouts, the players are assessed for skills, poise, hustle, teamwork, and volleyball IQ. Players, no matter what grade, will be placed on the level of the team that matches their skills, etc. At tryouts, every grade level tries out for Varsity. If that team is not made, then JV. Freshmen who do not make either of those teams may also try out for the freshman team. Upperclassmen, however, may not.
Do players go on to play collegiately and earn scholarship money?
Yes. Those who do come to conditioning sessions work hard all year. They also train at club level as well.
Why is it mandatory for players to attend summer practices as well as all practices and matches during the season?
Our first match is one week after school begins.
