Beginner to Advanced Players Welcome
FOUNDERS OF MID-SOUTH CHESS are InternationalGrandmaster Alex Stripunsky, a competitive player and premier chess instructor dedicated to spreading quality chess in the Mid-South, and International Master Jake Kleiman, a native Memphian and Phi Beta Kappa Rhodes College graduate recognized as one of the top players in the country.
MID-SOUTH CHESS INSTRUCTORS are college students and recent graduates who must exhibit chess ability, skill, enthusiasm, play actively, possess communicative-child friendly skills and fine moral character. Our instruction has spanned 21 years in Memphis and includes coaching elementary, middle, and high school students, camps, tournaments, seminars, and simultaneous chess exhibitions.
Chess Club: Mondays after school from 3:15 PM to 4:15 PM starting September 12th for 12 sessions. Please pick up at 4:15 PM from the library.
Social Justice and Inclusion Club ( Middle School Students Only)
Club Sponsor: Elizabeth Carter ( Elementary Music Teacher)
Our mission is to create a safe place for all students as we seek to understand and champion issues of social justice in the LGBTQ+ and BIPOC communities. In this effort, we will partner with community organizations including Facing History and Ourselves. We are a social organization open to all students to discuss issues pertinent to their lives. We are students who share a vision of social equality. We will seek opportunities to participate in events in our surrounding community that promote tolerance and acceptance. Meetings will be every Wednesday after school until 4:00 pm, Rm. 318. Parent permission is required. Click to download permission form. Spirit Club
Club Sponsor: Lana Suite ( 4th Grade Teacher)
The Snowden Spirit Club Members, willfoster school spirit at all home games. We will cheer our team to victory and show good sportsmanship even when we lose. We will be the leaders in the stand and in the school. We will generate an energy that every team will feel on and off the court.
Gaming Club
Club Sponsor: Scott Liebenhaut ( Middle School Clue Teacher)
The Gaming Club will be for highly competitive students. We will engage in playing and learning about the various indoor games including but not limited to: Board Games, Card Games, Word and Puzzle Games, and Video Games. Meeting times will be on the first and third Thursdays beginning this fall from 3:30pm – 4:30pm. More information will be forthcoming.
Middle School Art Club
Club Sponsor: Brittany Embry ( Middle School Art Teacher)
Snowden Art Club is for Middle School students who wish to spend additional time on art by pursuing independent studies, working on team projects with other students, trying out new creative processes outside of the art class or have increased time to complete class work. We will meet every Tuesday after school. Click to download the permission form. I will announce in advance any day we DO NOT have a meeting with as much notice as possible through the REMIND App. We will also be looking for additional opportunities to learn about art, which may include a field trip and guest speakers. Any outside exploration will be announced well in advance with additional permission slips required.

OPEN TO (GRADE LEVEL(S) 6-8; DESCRIPTION of CLUB/ORGANIZATION – Students learn about & participate in free Fantasy Football & Basketball
REQUIREMENTS – Parent/guardian must fill out a permission slip & sign their student up for a free online Yahoo Fantasy Sports account. There are 9 slots available at the beginning of the year. Meetings: Mondays until 3:30 in Room 322

Peer Mediation is returning to Snowden! Our 4th -8th graders will submit applications to train at Rhodes college for a day, learning the art of conflict resolution. Thirty students will be chosen to pair up & help their classmates resolve misunderstandings & teachable moments in supervised sessions. More information will be forthcoming.
