My name is Velvet Jeter and I am absolutely honored to “SERVE” as the principal of Brownsville Road Optional School. With a love for teaching and learning, I began my career as a second-grade teacher. As a teacher, I worked hard to cultivate the lives of my students through high academic expectations. I served as a classroom teacher for 8 years prior to beginning my leadership journey. 

With a willingness to serve in any capacity, I have as worked an Instructional Facilitator, PLC Coach and Assistant Principal. I believe that the standard for every endeavor should “ALWAYS” be excellence, especially when it comes to serving students and families.  

 During my 20-year tenure in education, I have been afforded several leadership opportunities which include New Leaders (Principal Pathways) and the Urban Education Center - Executive Leadership Program. As a servant leader, I take pride in motivating, encouraging, and leveraging the strengths of those around me. I believe that “If it doesn’t challenge you, it won’t change you.” Although accountability can be uncomfortable, I deem it necessary for personal and professional growth. In my spare time, I enjoy music, technology innovations and motivational speaking.
