Mrs. Abbye Miller
Mrs. Abbye Miller joined Barret’s Chapel in August 2000, following six years of service in two other districts. Her teaching career began at Dyer Elementary in the Gibson County School System where she taught until she married and moved to the Memphis area. She then accepted a teaching position in Munford (Tipton County Schools) until she was hired by Shelby County to teach at Barret’s Chapel. While at Barret’s Chapel, Mrs. Miller enjoyed several roles, including being a Special education teacher, a 5th grade teacher, and Assistant Principal. Mrs. Miller was named the principal at Barret’s Chapel in July 2019.
Mrs. Miller grew up in the Gibson County area and graduated from Gibson County High School. She received her undergraduate degree from Union University in Jackson, TN with her endorsement areas being elementary and special education. She then received her master’s degree with a specialty in Educational Leadership from Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville, TN.
When asked, Mrs. Miller is quoted as saying, “I have learned many things from my experience as an educator, one being that I have a great impact on the students in my school and, as a result, an impact on the community. I am grateful for the influence of my former teachers, colleagues, and administrators and for the role they continue to play in my life. In return, I want to give back to this wonderful Barret’s community. I have a strong passion to educate students and help them mature into well-rounded, responsible, and successful individuals. It is my pleasure to work with students, faculty, staff, parents, and community members to ensure a rewarding experience for all of our Wildcats! Thank you for entrusting your precious children to us this school year.”
