At Scenic Hills, we are a small school with a big heart.

To our Bobcat Families and Community

  • Dear Bobcat Families,

I am honored to serve you, students, and community as Principal of Scenic Hills Elementary. My commitment to education is simple. I believe wholeheartedly an educators’ main job is to cultivate genius in students and my job as a principal is to support you. Despite what many think, genius is not an innate ability. Genius must be developed, nourished, encouraged, and fostered each day within our school walls. I became an educator to help shine a light on and make sure that every student is celebrated for their unique qualities. I became a principal to support other educators and multiply my results exponentially.  It is up to educators to embrace young minds and chart a path of success for them.  This path includes equitable access to high-quality, rigorous curriculum, instruction that peaks students’ curiosity, teaches students to think about their thinking, take ownership of their learning, and provides every student with the things they need to be academically and socially successful. It is my belief that all students can be academically proficient if they are provided with the right tools and teachers are the key in charting this path for students.

This year marks my twenty-eighth year as an educator and a product of this school system. As a twice certified National Board-Certified Teacher, I have a strong foundation in curriculum, instructional strategies, data disaggregation, and foundational educational skills. In addition to serving as an Assistant Principal for the past three years, my previous position as a Professional Learning and Community (PLC) Coach involved supporting three Shelby County Schools Principals for nine years.  My journey has afforded me the opportunity to acquire eleven years of experience in administration and deepen my knowledge of content standards. My post-secondary education includes a master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction where my thesis examined the connection between vocabulary retention and reading comprehension. I also hold an Educational Specialist degree in K-12 Administration and Supervision.

I believe wholeheartedly in our school's mission to collaborate with all stockholders, provide a safe and nurturing environment where every student, every day will engage in an equitable-high quality educational experience so that ALL students are confident and prepared to engage in middle school and high school courses that will prepare them for their choice of college and/or career opportunities.

We have some great things happening at the hill!! We are a small school with a big heart who will raise the bar by:

    B-believing in ourselves,

      A-achieving our goals, and

    R-reimagining our future.

As always, every student counts and every moment matters. I'm looking forward to working with each as we help our children discover the genious that is within each of them.

    Sincerely,

    Jami Fowler-White, NBCT
