Dr. Dena Vaughan

Greetings! My name is Dr. Dena Vaughan and I serve as the Director of Choral Programs here at Overton High School. I was born and raised right here in the city of Memphis. I am a product of Memphis City Schools, where I graduated from Central High School. I hold a BA in Music with a minor in Psychology from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. I also received my Master of Arts in Education from Union University. I hold an Education Specialist degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Mississippi and a PhD from Carolina University. I have served as a music educator here in the city of Memphis for the last 17 years, where I have taught a variety of music subjects, such as: Orff Music, private voice, Concert Choir, General Music, Jazz Choir, and Pre-AP Music Theory. I am married with one dog (Hawk) and one cat (Barkley). They are my four-legged children and they are spoiled rotten!

Teaching music has been one of the great privileges of my life. I love to teach music because when I see my students get bit by the choir bug, I know they are in store for a lifetime of beautiful music-making experiences! Choir has done so much for me and my music teachers have given me so much. I simply want to do for my students what my music teachers did for me.
