Mr. Datris Cobb
Welcome to Music with Mr. Cobb. I am coming into my 5th year of teaching K-12 public education. I previously taught one year at Richland ES, three years of high school and one year at the University of Memphis. This is my 2nd year at Richland Elementary, and I am excited to get to know each and everyone of you! As a church music director, I have had the experience of working with all ages. I also wanted to get the chance to work with all ages in the public school system. Making music with others is my life.
When I am not working or doing schoolwork, I like to cook (baking is my specialty), travel (most recent trip was to Costa Rica), read, sing, play the piano, and binge watch tv (I love all genres).
Fun facts for students: I love pizza and cookies, and my first (non-church) job was at Chuck E. Cheese (I was Chuck E.).
Fun facts for parents: I have had the chance to record in the same studio as Bruno Mars (here in Memphis, TN), and I have performed with the saxophonist (Memphis native) Kirk Whalum. He can be heard playing saxophone on "I Will Always Love You" by Whitney Houston from the "The Body Guard."
“Teaching music is not my main purpose. I want to make good citizens. If children hear fine music from the day of their birth and learn to play it, they develop sensitivity, discipline, endurance. They get a beautiful heart.”Shinichi Suzuki
