Dear Ridgeway High School,
My name is Marren Blakely and I am the Executive Director of the Street Law Organization at the University of Memphis Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law. Street Law is an organization founded at Georgetown Law with the mission to educate youth about the law. This year at the University of Memphis, we have been focusing on the rights of youth when interacting with police in their community, as well as other important aspects of the law. Every year we host an Advocacy Camp for the youth of Shelby County to come and gain knowledge of many different aspects of the law.
This year our program will be focusing on helping youth understand the rights held by them as well as other members of our community. The idea of this day is to equip your students with knowledge to empower them in many different situations. The attached literature provides more information about the day.
When: February 13th from 8:00am-3:00pm
Where: Via Zoom. For security, the zoom information will be distributed the day before the event to only those who have registered.
If you are interested, please have students register at this link: https://forms.gle/ZrDi1RZXdwPwYWro7
Please feel free to reach out with any questions, comments, or concerns you may have. I would be happy to discuss anything with you about this event. We hope to see you and your students on February 13th.
