    Qtr. 1 emphasizes a strong focus on Digital Citizenship and typing. First graders will practice typing using the proper home row technique. First graders will also develop and improve their word processing skills. They will write short sentences, using proper spelling, capitalization, punctuation, and word spacing. Students will illustrate their text with shapes, clipart, or images if possible. They will learn to position and size those objects with their text. Students may learn to print / save their documents.

    Qtr. 2 progresses to additional stages of the online typing program to continue developing keyboard skills. Students will practice typing home row keys as well as adding the E and I keys. Students will also strengthen their word processing skills with assignments that include sequence writing using the formats of beginning, middle, end, and first, then, next, and finally. Students will learn to use clipart to add illustrations to their typed documents.

    Qtr. 3 first graders will strengthen their word processing skills with multiple assignments that include learning how to cut, copy, and paste images and text. Students will also learn to use text boxes and arrows to create labeled diagrams. These basic skills are foundational for creating multimedia presentations going forward. Students will practice typing home row keys, all previous lesson keys, as well as adding new keys.

    Qtr. 4 continues developing keyboard skills. Students will practice typing home row keys, all previous lesson keys, as well as adding new keys. Students will practice introductory online research by learning to find appropriate images to illustrate their word-processing documents. Students will also strengthen their word processing skills with assignments that include learning how to add, delete, resize, and position multiple images in typed documents. These skills are foundational for creating multimedia presentations going forward.
